Current Series: A More Excellent Way
The christians in Corinth were in trouble. The Apostle Paul received a letter that said there was "quarreling among them". They were playing the comparison game, bragging, getting into bitter disputes, and lacking unity. In other words, they were being self-centered and ultimately self-destructive to who God has called them to be. What is the solution to this mess? It is what Paul calls the "more excellent way" – love. Paul described the sum of the christian way of life as "faith working through love", and that "love binds all things together". In this famous chapter in 1 Corinthians, he tells us so much about the character of love and how it is essential for following in the way of Jesus Christ.
In a world where people brag on social media, give up on people when there is hurt and disappointment, and hold never-ending grudges, what does it look like for us to live counter-cultural lives of real (not fake) love towards others? And how does the gospel of Jesus christ uniquely call and equip us for that "more excellent way"? Let's learn and be transformed together by God's Word.
